2024-25 Forsyth County Middle School basketball

Basketball season is upon us! Teams have been hard at work going through conditioning, tryouts, and practice for the past month or so and now it is game week.

For basketball in Forsyth County, there are no divisions as all 11 middle schools compete in one group. Gamedays for the boys and girls teams are split up between sites. So if the girls are playing at home, then the boys will be on the road and vice versa. Each team plays 10 regular season games. Once the regular season has been completed, the teams will be seeded 1 through 11 by record. As stated in the FCS Athletic Guidelines, rule C.15. In the case of a tie, the following formula will be used:

Once the teams are seeded, they are placed into their respective brackets. The first round consists of three games matching up the 6-11 seeds. The top five seeds receive a first round bye. In the second round, the one, two, and three seeds play the winners of the first round games, while the four and five seeds play each other.

Just as it is in football, each team receives one bye date during the regular season. There are also two breaks in the basketball season with Thanksgiving (November 25-29), Christmas (December 23-27), and New Year's (December 30-January 3) holidays falling within the schedule. 

The second round between the two grade levels will be separated by a few days (including the weekend). The 7th grade teams will play on Thursday, but the 8th grade will not complete the second round until the following Tuesday. The semifinals will be on back-to-back days, and then all four levels will crown their champions on Saturday, February 1.
