Week 3 of the 2024-25 regular season concluded last week, and it already marks the halfway point for a handful of teams (six to be exact). Games were held on back-to-back days for the first time this year. North Forsyth (3-1, 4-0) & Liberty (0-4, 0-4) had their bye dates mixed in last week, so their two teams competed in just one game. Hendricks (5-0, 5-0) was the big winner, sweeping all four of their games to remain at the top of the standings in both 7th grade and 8th grade.
Thursday's games featured two highly anticipated matchups, South Forsyth (5-0, 4-1) at North Forsyth (7th and 8th grade) and Hendricks at Piney Grove (0-4, 2-2) (8th grade). The games did not disappoint as each came down to the very end before being decided. SFMS won the 7th grade game coming back from an early deficit, 41-36. NFMS did the same in 8th grade and exacted some revenge, picking up a crucial 45-44 nail biting victory. HMS' 8th grade team found themselves down early as well and found a way to get a big road win over PGMS, 51-45.
In addition to South Forsyth, Hendricks and Riverwatch maintained their perfect records to start the 7th grade season to lead the league at 5-0. Hendricks sits alone atop the 8th grade standings at 5-0 with North Forsyth right on their heels at 4-0.
After three weeks of action, Hendricks leads the 7th grade in scoring margin, currently winning by an average score of 48.6-18.4 (30.2 margin). Lakeside has taken the top spot in 8th grade with a scoring margin of 21.0 points per game.
South Forsyth is leading 7th grade in scoring at 50.8 points per game. Just behind the Eagles are Hendricks (48.6 PPG) and North Forsyth (48.5 PPG). North Forsyth is averaging 51.8 points per game and sits in the first position in scoring for 8th grade. Piney Grove (50.3 PPG) sits in second just a point and a half behind. Three teams are averaging over 50 points (7th-SFMS, 8th-NFMS and PGMS). Hendricks has given up only 18.4 points per game in 7th grade. Their next closest pursuer is giving up almost six more points per game (South Forsyth-24.2) South Forsyth and Lakeside are tied for the fewest points given up so far. The Eagles and Lions have allowed 27.8 PPG.
Three teams (HMS, RMS, and SFMS) have started to separate themselves from the pack in 7th grade with 5-0 records. The big matchup for Tuesday will be North Forsyth playing at Riverwatch. All but two teams (VCMS and LSMS) have double digit scoring margins through three weeks of games.
Only two unbeaten teams (HMS and NFMS) remain in 8th grade through three weeks. Two games on Tuesday could have large implications on the current standings; South Forsyth at Piney Grove and Lakeside at DeSana. The scoring differentials are a bit closer in 8th grade with seven teams in double digits.
