Hendricks and South Forsyth are leading the race to the number one spot in the playoffs. However, North Forsyth actually has the upper hand in the battle for the top spot with wins already over Hendricks and South Forsyth.
Both Hendricks and South Forsyth have clinched first round byes with their 7-1 records. The top five teams in the standings earn a spot in the quarterfinals with their first round byes. The two teams play each other coming out of the break. The winner will have a leg up on who earns home court for the quarterfinals.
With a win over Liberty or a loss by DeSana, North Forsyth would earn another one of the first round byes.
The other two byes will not be determined until the last three games of the season. Currently, Lakeside (4th; 5-2) and Piney Grove (5th; 4-3) are precariously holding the last two spots that would get a first round bye.
Lakeside could clinch a first round bye if the Lions defeat Riverwatch and DeSana drops their game versus Piney Grove.
Piney Grove plays against DeSana when the teams return from the break. A win by Piney Grove would move the Grizzlies two games ahead in the 5th place position. If DeSana pulls out the victory, they would hold the advantage to get a first round bye with the tiebreaker over Piney Grove in their possession.
Little Mill is still in the hunt for a first round bye. The Mustangs would have to defeat DeSana and Piney Grove and hope for their two competitors to finish with matching 5-5 records or worse.
Likewise, Liberty and Vickery Creek would need to win their remaining three games and then hope to see some chaos in the three spots ahead of them.
Riverwatch and Otwell are the only two teams that have been eliminated from getting a first round bye.
Just like 8th grade, South Forsyth and Hendricks are leading the race to the number one spot in the playoffs. Both teams have clinched first round byes. Their upcoming matchup will go a long way in determining the number one seed. A win by South Forsyth would clinch the one seed along with home court advantage in the quarterfinals. Hendricks would have the upper hand with a victory and only one game remaining for each team.
Riverwatch sits in third place currently. The Panthers lost their matchup with South Forsyth a week ago, but still have Hendricks and Lakeside (T-4th- 4-3) on the schedule. Two wins over those teams would go a long way to getting home court for Riverwatch. A victory over Lakeside, will at a minimum, earn the Panthers a first round bye.
Lakeside and Vickery Creek are tied for the 4th position. Both teams would earn first round byes if they can stay there through the end of the regular season. Lakeside has a tough path to get there still having to play Riverwatch and South Forsyth. Lakeside and Vickery Creek also play each other in the last week with the last two byes on the line.
North Forsyth is on the outside looking in for a first round bye at the moment, but even after a rough patch, the Wildcats can get a bye if they can win out and get a little help from the two teams just in front of them.
Liberty, Little Mill, Otwell, and Piney Grove are hanging on by a thread and have to win out, then hope to see some chaos in the three spots ahead of them in order to jump into one of the top five spots in the standings.
DeSana is the only team that has been eliminated from getting a first round bye.
