2025-26 Forsyth County Middle School Basketball Gameday #1 Recap
Eighth grade middle school basketball is officially underway, and the opening week delivered a little bit of everything. Five games are now in the books after a two-night slate last Wednesday and Thursday, giving fans an early look at where each team might be headed.
The most dramatic finish came at Piney Grove, where the Grizzlies held off a late North Forsyth rally for a thrilling 54–49 victory — the only contest that truly went down to the wire.
Vickery Creek and Little Mill were locked in a tight battle entering the fourth quarter before the Vipers found another gear, closing strong to earn a 12-point win.
The remaining three matchups were far more decisive, each ending in blowout fashion with margins of 20 points or more, hinting at a potentially wide competitive gap as the season gets rolling.
Featured Matchup
Liberty (12) @ South Forsyth (32)
It felt more like a fall Friday night than the opening week of basketball, as South Forsyth stormed out to a commanding 21–0 halftime lead over Liberty. But football season wrapped up last month — and this eye-popping score came on the hardwood.
The Eagles opened their title defense in dominant fashion Thursday night, rolling to a 32–12 victory over the visiting Patriots. South Forsyth’s defense completely smothered Liberty from start to finish, setting the tone early and never letting up.
That defensive identity has become one of the program’s most reliable weapons. Last season, the Eagles allowed just 28.3 points per game in the regular season and tightened up even more in the postseason, surrendering only 25.3 per contest. If opening night is any indication, South Forsyth’s defense looks poised to be just as stingy this year.
South Forsyth was led offensively by Lucas Pedro, with 13 points, while Adam Oche added 6 points. Liberty was paced by Ben Selbst, who scored 5 points.
