2025-26 Forsyth County Middle School Basketball Gameday #3
After two games for most teams — and three for North Forsyth and Vickery Creek, who played last night — the standings already show a clear separation between the early contenders and those trying to find their footing. Five teams remain unbeaten, with Vickery Creek alone at the top at 3-0, holding a half-game lead after Wednesday’s win over North Forsyth. Hendricks, Riverwatch, and South Forsyth are each 2-0, while Piney Grove sits at 1-0 following its scheduled bye on Tuesday.
At the other end, five of the remaining six teams have already dropped two games. Lakeside is the only team with just one result so far, sitting at 0-1 after receiving its bye last week.
Now attention turns to Day 3 of the regular season. These will be the last games until December 2nd as Forsyth County Schools heads into Thanksgiving break next week. Otwell has their bye date so they will get an extra long break from game action.
Featured Matchup
Riverwatch (2-0) @ Piney Grove (1-0)
Date: Thursday, November 20 | Tipoff: 6:30 PM (approx.)
Riverwatch delivered its biggest win of last season in emphatic fashion, rolling past Piney Grove 50–24. That victory came right in the middle of a six-game surge to open the 2024–25 campaign, a stretch that cemented the Panthers as one of the early powers. For the Grizzlies, though, it was the start of a tough slide — they went on to drop their first five games as the season quickly got away from them.
Fast-forward to now, and Riverwatch looks every bit like the same high-octane machine. The Panthers are off to another blistering start, sitting just a half-game behind Vickery Creek and owning the league’s top scoring margin at +22.0 per night. They’re putting up 49.0 points per game — third-best in the county — while locking opponents down to just 27.0, the second-stingiest defense so far.
But Piney Grove has no interest in repeating last year’s script. The Grizzlies already changed the narrative in their opener against North Forsyth. A year ago, they fell to the Wildcats 50–32; this season, they flipped the outcome on its head with a 54–49 statement win to launch their 2025–26 campaign.
For both teams, tonight’s matchup carries more weight than just marking another early-season date on the calendar. Riverwatch is aiming to reassert itself as a legitimate title threat after last year’s disappointing postseason stumble. Piney Grove wants to earn a seat at that same table — and a win over the Panthers would send a loud message that they belong in the championship conversation.
Other Matchups
Vickery Creek (2–0) has wasted no time picking up where they left off, opening the season with back-to-back wins for the second straight year after a convincing 52–34 victory over DeSana. North Forsyth (1–1) also found the win column on Tuesday night, grinding out a tight 38–36 triumph over Little Mill.
Last season, North Forsyth stunned Vickery Creek 53–39 in what was arguably the Wildcats’ biggest win of the 2024–25 campaign. NOTE: The game was moved up a day and was won by Vickery Creek 45-42. The Vipers improved to 3-0 and lead the 8th grade league standings by half a game. The Wildcats fell to 1-2 and will look to regroup over the break.
Hendricks (2-0) has opened the season with two impressive victories. The Hawks are tied for the league lead in scoring margin, overwhelming opponents by an average of 22.0 points per game. On the other end, DeSana (0–2) is still searching for its first victory, putting them on the opposite end of the early-season spectrum.
Last year, Hendricks rolled to a 49–17 win. The Dragons are staring down one of the toughest opening stretches in the county. Their first four games come against four of the five remaining undefeated teams. The Hawks will look to handle business and keep pace at the top, aiming to climb back into a share of first place.
Lakeside (0–1) and Liberty (0–2) both enter tonight still searching for their first win, making this matchup an early-season opportunity for one of them to get on track. The Lions opened their year on Tuesday night with a 45–33 loss to Hendricks, while Liberty has faced a brutal opening stretch, dropping their first two games to South Forsyth and Riverwatch — both by 20-plus points.
Their meeting last season delivered a tight, back-and-forth battle before Lakeside ultimately prevailed 43–37. The Lions found themselves in this exact same position a year ago, picking up their first win of the season against Liberty.
South Forsyth (2–0) has picked up right where it left off, pairing a stingy defense with an offense that can take over at any moment. Little Mill (0–2) has been competitive but have dropped two tight contests to open the year. On Tuesday night, the Mustangs came up just short in their rivalry showdown with North Forsyth.
The Eagles just keep rolling. They can grind out low-scoring defensive battles or turn games into fast-paced, high-energy shootouts — whatever the moment demands, they have an answer. For Little Mill, the question becomes how much they have left in the tank after such a draining early-week loss.
