Week 2 of the 2024-25 season tipped off on Tuesday night. Two schools (Liberty and South Forsyth) swept their 7th and 8th grade games on the second day of action for the girls' basketball teams. The other three doubleheaders resulted in splits between the two teams.
Parity appears to be the name of the game for both 7th and 8th grade after two days of games. There are just three undefeated teams in both 7th grade (HMS, LMMS, and SFMS) and 8th grade (LMS, LSMS, and PGMS). In 8th grade, only Liberty is 2-0. Lakeside and Piney Grove are 1-0, already having had their bye date.
Ten (4 in 7th grade and 6 in 8th grade) of the 22 teams stand at 1-1 after the first two gamedays. Half of the squads (11 out of 22) have scoring differentials lower than 10 points, which means the games themselves have been very close. If this keeps up, both leagues will have exciting and suspenseful seasons leading to playoffs. It is early, but as a fan, let's hope the leagues stay that competitive.
In 7th grade, South Forsyth is currently leading the league in scoring margin, with an average differential of 39.0 points (53.5-14.5). Lakeside is leading 8th grade in this category, winning their first game of the season 55-13. Liberty is second, winning by an average score of 46.5-18.5 (28.0 differential).
South Forsyth is leading 7th grade (53.5) in points per game. Scoring 55 points in their first game has Lakeside sitting atop the 8th grade standings in points per game. Piney Grove has given up the fewest points in 7th grade giving up just 11 points in their only game of the season so far. Lakeside also leads 8th grade in the "fewest points given up" category with their first opponent scoring 13 points.
Three teams (HMS, LMMS, and SFMS) sit atop of the standings in 7th grade with 2-0 records. Two of those teams square off tonight (SFMS @ LMMS). All the other schools have picked up at least one loss heading into the third games of the season.
Three teams (LMS, LSMS, and PGMS) remain undefeated through two gamedays in 8th grade. Just like 7th grade, two of those teams play each other tonight (LMS @ LSMS). Six teams have just one loss and two have dropped their first two contests.
