2025-26 Forsyth County Middle School Basketball Week 2

In an exact mirror of last year’s opening games, Hendricks (1-0) and South Forsyth (1-0) were dominant, while DeSana, Little Mill, and North Forsyth also picked up victories. Could we be seeing a repeat of the 2024-25 season unfold? Hendricks was the only team to surpass the 50-point mark on opening night, while South Forsyth came close, despite easing up a bit after a 23-point first quarter in their win over Liberty.

Now attention turns to Day 2 of the regular season. Lakeside begins its campaign as they host Hendricks in an early-season showdown between two perennial powers in Forsyth County girls basketball. Meanwhile, Piney Grove will use its bye week to regroup after their opening-night loss to North Forsyth, hoping extra practice and preparation can help them bounce back in upcoming contests.

Last season, Little Mill edged out North Forsyth in a defensive struggle, 21–17 — a score that looked more like it belonged on a football field than a basketball court. Early in the 2024–25 season, Little Mill had difficulty generating offense, failing to surpass 21 points in a game until mid-December. Once they finally broke that barrier, though, the Mustangs showed improvement, topping that mark in three of their final five contests.

North Forsyth faced similar challenges last season. The Wildcats scored more than 21 points only four times, though they, too, finished strong by exceeding that number in each of their final three games.

In Week 1 of the new season, Little Mill returned to their defensive identity, grinding out a 17–14 win over Vickery Creek. True to form, the Mustangs once again produced a football-like score, as both teams combined for just seven second-half points. Little Mill led 14–10 at halftime, mustered only three points after the break, and still held on for the win.

North Forsyth, meanwhile, showed signs of growth on both ends of the court. The Wildcats started stronger offensively and paired that effort with a reliable defensive performance in their 27–14 victory over Piney Grove.

Now, these two teams meet with a chance to move to 2–0 — and with local bragging rights on the line. This county rivalry matchup not only carries early-season implications but also offers a measuring stick for which team has made the bigger stride since last year’s defensive duel.

Other Matchups

Defending champions Hendricks opened their title defense with a commanding 54–19 victory over Otwell. The Hawks wasted no time, exploding for 39 first-half points and effectively putting the game out of reach before halftime. Their 27-point second quarter alone outscored six other teams’ entire game totals from Week 1.

Last season, Hendricks defeated Lakeside 35–20, one of only four games in which the Hawks didn’t win by 20 or more points. Lakeside will be tipping off their season after last week’s bye. Facing the defending champs right out of the gate will provide an immediate and honest evaluation of where the Lions stand.

South Forsyth (1–0) combined a steady offensive attack with a suffocating defensive effort in their win over Liberty. Otwell (0–1) opened their season against defending champion Hendricks. The Bulldogs hung around for a quarter before the Hawks slammed the door in a dominant second quarter that put the game out of reach.

South Forsyth controlled last season’s matchup between the two teams, winning 59–15 — the highest single-game point total recorded by a 7th grade girls team. Now, Otwell faces the challenge of beginning the season with back-to-back games against two of the league’s toughest opponents.

DeSana (1–0) opened the season with a 28–10 win over Riverwatch. While the final score may not jump off the page, the Dragons held the Panthers scoreless for the entire first half. Vickery Creek (0–1) struggled to find rhythm on offense, scoring only 14 points in their loss to Little Mill, including a scoreless third quarter.

Last season, Vickery Creek surprised DeSana in their matchup — a result that didn’t seem like a major upset at the time. However, the Dragons surged all the way to the semifinals. This time around, DeSana will be eyeing revenge for last year’s loss, while Vickery Creek aims to prove that their upset was no fluke.

Liberty (0–1) and Riverwatch (0–1) are looking to avoid an 0–2 start after both teams struggled offensively in their openers. The Patriots managed 24 points, while the Panthers were limited to just 10. Each squad will be focused on finding rhythm on the offensive end when they meet on Tuesday night.

Last season, Liberty edged Riverwatch 28–25. The Panthers responded well to that setback, rattling off three straight wins before hitting a late-season slide that saw them drop four games in a row. Liberty, meanwhile, experienced the opposite trajectory. After opening with three straight losses, the Patriots flipped the script and surged to seven consecutive victories.
