2025-26 Forsyth County Middle School Basketball Gameday #3

After two games for most teams — and three for North Forsyth and Vickery Creek, who played last night — the standings are already beginning to separate the early contenders from those still finding their footing. Only three teams remain unbeaten, with North Forsyth sitting alone at the top at 3–0, holding a half-game lead after Wednesday’s thrilling win over Vickery Creek. Hendricks and South Forsyth are each 2–0, once again signaling that they will be among the teams to beat in 2025–26.

At the other end of the spectrum, five teams have already picked up one loss, including Lakeside and Piney Grove, both of whom have played just a single game after taking their bye weeks. Meanwhile, three teams have dropped two contests, highlighted by Vickery Creek’s narrow defeat to North Forsyth last night.

Now attention turns to Day 3 of the regular season. These will be the last games until December 2nd as Forsyth County Schools heads into Thanksgiving break next week. Otwell has their bye date so they will get an extra long break from game action.

Lakeside (0-1) @ Liberty (1-1)

These two teams are typically near the top of the standings by season’s end, which is what makes this game so important. Both squads already carry one loss and will be eager to avoid another setback this early in the season.

Last year, Lakeside and Liberty were in a very similar position. The Lions came out on top in a nail-biter on their home court, 29–28. Both teams recovered from slow starts to finish as the #3 and #4 seeds in the tournament, but that early-season victory gave Lakeside the higher seed — a position they parlayed into a run to the semifinals. Liberty, meanwhile, bowed out to the #5 seed DeSana. These early-season games can have a major impact when the standings shake out.

Lakeside’s lone loss last season came at the hands of Hendricks, last year’s champion, and the game was tight throughout, showing that the Lions are tough to beat. Liberty, on the other hand, has homecourt advantage this year, though their only loss came to South Forsyth — a game that was not as close. This sets up a compelling matchup where both teams will be fighting hard to stay in control of the early-season momentum.

Other Matchups

North Forsyth (2-0) is off to a better start than last already picking up their second win of the season over Little Mill, 35-17. Last year, the Wildcats lost to the Mustangs by four points in a low scoring game. Vickery Creek (1-1) picked up their first win over DeSana, 25-23. It was the Vipers second straight one possession game as the horn sounded in as many games.

Last season, Vickery Creek defeated North Forsyth 25-19. NOTE: The game was moved up a day and was won by North Forsyth 42-31. The Wildcats improved to 3-0 and lead the 8th grade league standings by half a game. The Vipers fell to 1-2 and will look to regroup over the break.

The defending champions are off to another strong start in 2025–26, opening the season 2–0 and looking every bit like a team intent on staying at the top. Hendricks is outscoring opponents by an impressive 20.5 points per game and leads the league in scoring at 48.5 points per contest. DeSana (1–1) comes in after a tough setback, falling 25–23 to Vickery Creek. The Dragons showed plenty of grit but will need an elevated performance to keep pace with the red-hot Hawks.

Last season, Hendricks controlled the matchup between these two teams, rolling to a 41–19 victory. DeSana will be aiming to flip the script, but they know the challenge ahead is steep.

Piney Grove (0–1) and Riverwatch (0–2) enter the matchup still searching for their first win of the season. The Grizzlies return from their bye on Tuesday eager to spark an offense that never quite found its footing in their opener. Riverwatch, meanwhile, has dropped its first two contests to DeSana and Liberty, both by 18-plus points. The Panthers have struggled mightily on the offensive end, averaging just 12.0 points per game.

Last season, Riverwatch edged Piney Grove 21–19 in a low-scoring battle that came down to the final possessions. With both teams grinding to find offense, another defensive struggle seems all but guaranteed.

South Forsyth (2–0) has steamrolled through their matchups, outscoring opponents by an average of 47.0 to 21.5. That 25.5-point scoring margin leads the league. Little Mill (1–1) is once again struggling to find offensive rhythm, managing just 17 points in each of their first two outings.

Last season, South Forsyth overwhelmed Little Mill 49–9, the Mustangs’ most lopsided defeat of the year. Both teams come in with plenty of motivation: the Eagles aim to stay firmly on track toward their championship goals, while Little Mill looks to spark its offense and close the gap compared to last season’s result.
