It is Championship Week for the Lakeside Lions (8-0) and the North Forsyth Wildcats (7-1). Tomorrow night, Forsyth County will crown its Middle School Football Champion! Can Lakeside end the season as a three-peat champion? Or will North Forsyth get back to the top of the mountain for the first time since 2015?
The game is a rematch of last year's Championship Game and the two squads played each other in Week 1, as well. This will mark the third straight year that the Lions and Wildcats have faced off in the playoffs (2022-semifinals, 2023-finals, and 2024-finals). These two programs know each other well.
Since Lakeside began their dominance of football in the county in 2022, the Lions and Wildcats have met each other four times (regular season-2, playoffs-2). There would have been a fifth game, but last year's regular season game was cancelled after storms pushed divisional games to another week. In each of the four games, Lakeside has been victorious. However, in each game, North Forsyth has gotten closer and closer.
It almost seemed destined that the two teams would meet again in the Championship after their Week 1 game. North Forsyth got off to a slow start and Lakeside jumped out to an early lead. The Lions held the Wildcats in check in the first half and led by double digits going into halftime (20-8). Both teams battled to score in the second half but it was tough sledding. North Forsyth put up a touchdown to get within four points but were later stopped on a fourth down play toward the end of the game. Lakeside then ran out the clock for a 20-16 victory.
Outside of their Week 1 game and the their games versus South Forsyth (LSMS 36-31, NFMS 30-24), neither Lakeside or North Forsyth were challenged during the season. Both teams next closest games were against Liberty (LSMS won 34-22, NFMS won 34-12). All their other games were won by 26 points or more.
At the end of the day, these are the two best teams in the county and it has been that way the last two years. So, it is only appropriate that we get to see them battle it out again for all the marbles tomorrow night at 6:45 pm at Lambert High School.

Another absolutely beautiful evening and night is on tap for tomorrow's game. The game time temperature will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s. There will be little to no wind the entire night. As the sun sets just after kickoff (6:53 pm), the temperature will fall from the upper 60s into the low to mid 60s by the game's end.
