Week 5 is the next to last week of divisional games. Just three teams remain unbeaten in division play (East - Lakeside; West - Little Mill and North Forsyth). Lakeside controls their playoff destiny. With a win over second place South Forsyth in their pocket, two more division wins and the Lions will take the top spot in the East. Little Mill and North Forsyth play this week with the #1 spot in the West on the line.
Huge playoff implications are on the line in the Little Mill versus North Forsyth matchup this week. If North Forsyth wins, they will clinch at least a tie for the West Division title. The Wildcats would clinch the #1 spot in the West as well as they would own wins over Little Mill and Liberty. If Little Mill wins, they would still need to beat Liberty in the last week of the season to win the division outright. On paper, it appears this game will be decided between Little Mill's defense and North Forsyth's offense. Little Mill has not given up a score in any of their first three divisional games. Meanwhile, North Forsyth has scored at will, putting up 144 points in their three games versus West Division foes. Which side of the ball will win out? If it becomes a high scoring game, can Little Mill match North Forsyth?
Lakeside is looking to wrap up the #1 spot in the East Division this week and can do so with a win over DeSana and a loss by Riverwatch. South Forsyth, who sits in second place in the East standings, is off this week. However, the Eagles could clinch a playoff spot with losses by Riverwatch (vs Piney Grove) and DeSana (vs Lakeside).
As you may have noticed from the last paragraph, both Lakeside's and South Forsyth's advancement to the playoffs is contingent on Riverwatch's game vs Piney Grove. Riverwatch is on the playoff bubble and needs to win out to make the playoffs.
The two other games in the West Division this week are between Liberty and Vickery Creek and Hendricks and Otwell. Liberty faces a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes alive in 2024. Hendricks needs a lot to go right in order to get into the playoffs, but they must win out to have any chance of getting into the top two in the West. Meanwhile, Otwell and Vickery Creek will be desperately trying to get their first wins of the season.
Another beautiful evening for football is ahead. The temperatures will be similar to last week, and once again the forecast calls for a 0% chance of rain and a light breeze throughout the night.
