Week 6 is in the books as we head into Fall Break for Forsyth County Schools, September 23-27. There are no games this coming week as everyone takes a break from school. Four teams (Hendricks, Little Mill, North Forsyth, and Otwell) have their bye weeks after Fall Break so they will get two weeks off from competitive game action. Each of those four teams and Piney Grove have just one game remaining. The Grizzlies will play their final game against DeSana upon return from the break. Also note that the next games will be played on Wednesday, October 2 and not in the traditional Tuesday time slot. The Week 8 games will return to Tuesday (October 8th).
Lakeside (5-0, #1 seed in the East) stayed undefeated after knocking off Liberty (3-2, tied for #2 seed in the West), 34-22. The Lions next opponent is West Jackson (4-0) from Jefferson, GA. The Panthers finished last season undefeated and captured the Pac IV Championship. Liberty will host Riverwatch in their last tune-up for Little Mill in Week 8.
In a week with much closer scores than usual, North Forsyth (5-1, #1 seed in the West) kept their foot on the pedal, rolling to a 40-8 victory over Piney Grove (2-4). The Wildcats were the only team from the West to win their game this past week, which saw the East go 4-1 against their crosstown opponents.
South Forsyth (4-1, #2 seed in the East) got off to a slow start versus Hendricks (3-3) and were trailing 7-6 at halftime. The Eagles held the Hawks scoreless the rest of the way and won going away, 25-7.
DeSana (2-3) picked up a big win over playoff contender, Little Mill (4-2, tied for #2 seed in the West), 22-20 in triple overtime. Both of the Dragons' wins this year have been over non-divisional opponents (defeated Otwell in Week 1).
Riverwatch (2-3) defeated Otwell (0-6), 36-20. It was the Panthers second win of the season, as well. After being shutout in three straight contests, Otwell put up their most points this season. The Bulldogs will have one more opportunity (Week 8 versus Vickery Creek) to pick up that elusive first victory.
