There is an extra day to wait for this week's games as the teams will take the field Wednesday instead of the customary Tuesday evening spot. It is the next to last week on the regular season schedule and also marks the last non-divisional games of the season. Just seven of the eleven teams play this week with four teams having a bye out of the off week for Fall Break in Forsyth County.
Both East Division playoff teams, Lakeside and South Forsyth, will be in action on Wednesday. Lakeside will take on the only out of county opponent on the 2024 schedule, West Jackson. The Panthers will travel from Jefferson, GA to play the Lions at South Forsyth High School. Both teams are undefeated with Lakeside at 5-0 and West Jackson at 4-0 (WJMS was slated to play Clarke last Thursday but had their game cancelled due to Hurricane Helene). In addition to unblemished records, each team won championships last year (LSMS - Forsyth County Championship and WJMS - Pac IV Championship).
South Forsyth and Vickery Creek are both traveling this week, but Vickery Creek will be the home team with the game being played at Forsyth Central High School. The Eagles will be looking to fine tune things before their last divisional game next week versus DeSana. The Vipers are aiming to pull the upset and get their maiden win. This is one of two games this week that will be a rematch from earlier in the season. The Eagles and Vipers faced off in Week 1, with South Forsyth getting the 48-15 victory.
Liberty is the only team in the West Division that can make the playoffs which plays this week (North Forsyth and Little Mill are off). The Patriots (versus Riverwatch) are in a tough spot as they prepare for their biggest game of the season next week when they will take on Little Mill with the last remaining playoff spot on the line. Riverwatch will try to even their record at 3-3 going into the final week of the season.
In the other rematch in Week 7, Piney Grove will take on DeSana. The Grizzlies and Dragons met in Week 2 in a divisional game. Piney Grove shutout DeSana 20-0. This is the last game of the season for Piney Grove as their bye week is set for Week 8. DeSana is coming off a big win over Little Mill in Week 6, so the Dragons will be looking to build on that momentum to end their year.
After a rough ending to Fall Break weather-wise, the forecast is back on track for another beautiful evening for football tomorrow. Temperatures will be in the 70s throughout the games with little to no wind or rain chances.
