The regular season is over and the playoffs are set! Little Mill (5-2) earned the final spot (#2 seed in the West Division) after notching a tough, hard fought win over Liberty (4-3). The Mustangs are in the playoffs for the first time in program history (school opened in 2007). They join Lakeside (7-0), North Forsyth (6-1), and South Forsyth (6-1) in the 2024 FCMS playoffs. Here is a look at how the bracket shapes up.
Both semifinal games will be played on Tuesday, October 15th at 6:30 PM. The Lakeside/Little Mill matchup will be contested at South Forsyth High School's War Eagle Stadium while the North Forsyth/South Forsyth game will take place at North Forsyth High School's Raider Valley. The winners of the two semifinals will face off next Wednesday, October 23rd at Lambert High School to determine this year's county champion.
The game of the week did not disappoint. A defensive struggle between Little Mill and Liberty ensued on Tuesday evening, and it took just one score to win the game. Neither team flinched with so much on the line, and both teams should be proud of the effort they showed on the field. The Mustangs scored their lone touchdown in the first half and led 7-0 at halftime. That would end up being the final score and Little Mill was able to celebrate their inaugural trip to the playoffs.
The other championship contenders all faced road games in their final regular season games and had convincing wins. Lakeside (44-16 vs Riverwatch), North Forsyth (33-6 vs Hendricks), and South Forsyth (36-6 vs DeSana) each won by 27 points or more in preparation for the playoffs.
The other game of the week between Otwell (0-7) and Vickery Creek (1-6) ended with a single digit margin. Both teams played their closest game of the season. When the final horn sounded on the 2024 regular season, Vickery Creek came out on top, 22-13. The win was the first of the season for the Vipers.
