After a brief practice schedule, the 2025 golf season started up last Tuesday afternoon with four team matchups. All eleven county schools field a golf team, made up of girls and boys from 7th and 8th grade. King's Ridge, out of Alpharetta, also plays against the Forsyth County teams in multiple matchups and in the FCS Invitational. Each county team plays between five and seven matchups throughout the season. In addition, the county holds two tournaments. The FCS Invitational which takes place tomorrow, March 11th, at Olde Atlanta Golf Club. Then, the FCS Tournament will conclude the season and a champion will be crowned on April 17th at Polo Golf and Country Club.
Most of the matchups consist of two or three teams. Each event is stroke play (golf competition where your score is calculated by how many strokes (=hits) you take to complete all of the holes, rather than how many times you have the best score on a hole).
For each team competing in the events, six players are allowed to keep their scores. Before each event, the coaches will determine their "starters" (four to six players that will be recording their scores). Other players on the rosters can participate, but their scores do not count toward the team total. At the conclusion of the event, only the top four scores from each team are added up to determine the overall team score. The team with the lowest number of strokes taken is the winner.
The two countywide tournaments are the only events where all teams will be present. Only the eleven county teams will compete in the end of season tournament. For the in season Invitational, four predetermined players will represent their teams to compete for individual and team titles. At the season ending Tournament, each school will field teams of six players who will vie for the team and individual championships.
Spring Break (March 31st-April 4th) for the Forsyth County Schools falls between the fourth and fifth week on the schedule this year. There will be no events that week.
Eight courses will be featured on the schedule in 2025. They are:
Country Land
Crystal Falls
Hawks Ridge
Iron Horse
Laurel Springs
Olde Atlanta
Polo
