2025-26 Boys Basketball
Week 1 Review
Boys middle school basketball is officially underway, and the opening slate delivered an early snapshot of the county landscape. Ten games were played over two nights, with several teams making immediate statements.
Piney Grove hosted the most dramatic finishes of the week. In 7th grade, North Forsyth pulled away late for a 36–30 win after entering the fourth quarter with a one-point edge. The 8th-grade matchup followed a similar script, as Piney Grove held off a late North Forsyth rally to secure a thrilling 54–49 victory.
At the 7th-grade level, Little Mill and Riverwatch stole the spotlight with dominant 34-point wins, immediately positioning themselves as early contenders. South Forsyth also opened with a victory, building a sizable lead before holding off Liberty 35–26, while Hendricks controlled its matchup with Otwell from start to finish in a 36–25 win.
In 8th grade, home teams ruled the night, winning four of five contests. Vickery Creek was the lone road winner, pulling away from Little Mill in the fourth quarter for a 12-point victory. The remaining games were decided by 20 points or more, hinting at a potential separation between the league’s top teams and the rest as the season gets rolling.

Liberty (12) @ South Forsyth (32)
It felt more like a fall Friday night than the opening week of basketball, as South Forsyth stormed out to a commanding 21–0 halftime lead over Liberty. But football season wrapped up last month — and this eye-popping score came on the hardwood.
The Eagles opened their title defense in dominant fashion Thursday night, rolling to a 32–12 victory over the visiting Patriots. South Forsyth’s defense completely smothered Liberty from start to finish, setting the tone early and never letting up.
That defensive identity has become one of the program’s most reliable weapons. Last season, the Eagles allowed just 28.3 points per game in the regular season and tightened up even more in the postseason, surrendering only 25.3 per contest. If opening night is any indication, South Forsyth’s defense looks poised to be just as stingy this year.
South Forsyth was led offensively by Lucas Pedro, with 13 points, while Adam Oche added 6 points. Liberty was paced by Ben Selbst, who scored 5 points.
