2025-26 Girls Basketball
Week 2 Preview
Week 1 featured several dominant performances in 7th-grade action, highlighted by Riverwatch’s impressive opening-night win over DeSana. The Panthers scored 40 points while holding the Dragons to just nine — the only single-digit team total across all games. Riverwatch controlled the middle portion of the game, outscoring DeSana 26–4 across the second and third quarters to put the result well out of reach.
Little Mill and North Forsyth also opened their seasons with convincing double-digit victories, defeating Vickery Creek and Piney Grove, respectively. Hendricks and South Forsyth joined them in the win column, as all five teams began the season with strong, balanced performances.
As teams moved deeper into the opening week, early separation in the standings began to emerge. Little Mill and Riverwatch both climbed to 2–0, establishing themselves at the top of the table, while Lakeside remained just a half-game back at 1–0 after opening its season later due to a bye.
Vickery Creek rebounded from its opening loss with a decisive 35–15 win over North Forsyth, improving to 2–1 and keeping pace in a crowded chase group near the top of the standings. Five teams currently sit with one loss, while three teams have dropped two games as the early season begins to sort itself out.
After two games for most teams — and three for North Forsyth and Vickery Creek, who played last night — the standings are already beginning to separate the early contenders from those still finding their footing. Only three teams remain unbeaten, with North Forsyth sitting alone at the top at 3–0, holding a half-game lead after Wednesday’s thrilling win over Vickery Creek. Hendricks and South Forsyth are each 2–0, once again signaling that they will be among the teams to beat in 2025–26.
At the other end of the spectrum, five teams have already picked up one loss, including Lakeside and Piney Grove, both of whom have played just a single game after taking their bye weeks. Meanwhile, three teams have dropped two contests, highlighted by Vickery Creek’s narrow defeat to North Forsyth last night.
Now attention turns to Day 3 of the regular season. These will be the last games until December 2nd as Forsyth County Schools heads into Thanksgiving break next week. Otwell has their bye date so they will get an extra long break from game action.
Featured Matchup
7th Grade
North Forsyth (1-0) @ Little Mill (1-0)
Date: Tuesday, November 18 | Tipoff: 5:30 PM
This matchup is the only Day 2 showdown featuring two undefeated teams, as both North Forsyth (1–0) and Little Mill (1–0) rolled to dominant Week 1 victories. North Forsyth cruised past Piney Grove 34–13, while Little Mill handled Vickery Creek 36–16.
With both teams posting nearly identical stat lines, this matchup quickly becomes one of the early indicators of who may emerge as a legitimate championship contender. Each squad showcased balance in their openers — North Forsyth and Little Mill finished with the second- and third-highest point totals in Week 1, while also recording the second- and third-fewest points allowed. Offensive execution and defensive pressure were strengths for both teams, heightening the intrigue around this Week 2 meeting.
Now, the two rivals clash with a chance to move to 2–0 — and with county bragging rights on the line, this rivalry matchup carries meaningful early-season implications.
Notable Matchup
8th Grade
North Forsyth (1-0) @ Little Mill (1-0)
Date: Tuesday, November 18 | Tipoff: 6:30 PM (approx.)
Last season, Little Mill edged out North Forsyth in a defensive struggle, 21–17 — a score that looked more like it belonged on a football field than a basketball court. Early in the 2024–25 season, Little Mill had difficulty generating offense, failing to surpass 21 points in a game until mid-December. Once they finally broke that barrier, though, the Mustangs showed improvement, topping that mark in three of their final five contests.
North Forsyth faced similar challenges last season. The Wildcats scored more than 21 points only four times, though they, too, finished strong by exceeding that number in each of their final three games.
In Week 1 of the new season, Little Mill returned to their defensive identity, grinding out a 17–14 win over Vickery Creek. True to form, the Mustangs once again produced a football-like score, as both teams combined for just seven second-half points. Little Mill led 14–10 at halftime, mustered only three points after the break, and still held on for the win.
North Forsyth, meanwhile, showed signs of growth on both ends of the court. The Wildcats started stronger offensively and paired that effort with a reliable defensive performance in their 27–14 victory over Piney Grove.
Now, these two teams meet with a chance to move to 2–0 — and with local bragging rights on the line. This county rivalry matchup not only carries early-season implications but also offers a measuring stick for which team has made the bigger stride since last year’s defensive duel.
