2025-26 Girls Basketball
Week 3 Preview
Six teams remain undefeated through two weeks of girls basketball action. Three teams from each league have yet to suffer a loss, including five squads sitting at 3–0 and one at 2–0. Early dominance has also shown up in scoring margins, as six teams in 7th grade and five teams in 8th grade hold positive point differentials. Little Mill (7th), Riverwatch (7th), and South Forsyth (8th) have been especially impressive, each posting winning margins of more than 20 points.
The top two teams in 7th grade, Little Mill and Riverwatch, will square off Tuesday night in the FCMS-Athletics.com Featured Game of the Week. In 8th grade, the key matchup on Tuesday features Liberty traveling to Hendricks. The Hawks are off to a 3–0 start but have shown some vulnerability in their last two contests against Lakeside and DeSana. Liberty, meanwhile, dropped its season opener to South Forsyth before rebounding with back-to-back wins over Riverwatch and Lakeside.
Contenders and pretenders could begin to separate on Thursday, as the slate presents several early-season tests. In 7th grade, the current top four teams in the standings will face off, with Little Mill traveling to Lakeside and Vickery Creek hosting Riverwatch. In 8th grade action, two undefeated teams, South Forsyth and North Forsyth will meet in a matchup that could have major implications in the standings.
With these being the first games back following the Thanksgiving break, it will be interesting to see which teams can carry their momentum forward and which may show signs of rust after the layoff. North Forsyth will have its bye on Tuesday, while Liberty is scheduled for a Thursday bye.
Featured Matchup
7th Grade
Riverwatch (3-0) @ Little Mill (3-0)
Date: Tuesday, December 2 | Tipoff: 5:30 PM
Despite both teams entering the matchup undefeated, Little Mill appears to have had the stronger start to the season on paper, posting dominant wins over Vickery Creek, North Forsyth, and South Forsyth. The victory over Vickery Creek stands out as the Mustangs’ most impressive result so far, as the Vipers have since won their last two games by wide margins.
Riverwatch has also been impressive, earning convincing wins over DeSana and Piney Grove. The Panthers’ closest contest to date was a five-point victory over Liberty, showing they can handle a tight game when needed.
Offensively, the two teams are nearly identical. Little Mill is averaging 40.3 points per game, while Riverwatch sits right behind at 40.0 PPG. Defensively, however, Little Mill holds a clear edge, allowing just 11.0 points per game. Riverwatch remains strong on that end as well, surrendering 19.0 PPG — the third-lowest mark in the league.
Notable Matchup
8th Grade
South Forsyth (4-0) @ North Forsyth (3-0)
Date: Thursday, December 4 | Tipoff: 6:30 PM (approx.)
Through four games, South Forsyth has looked just as dominant — if not more so — than it did a season ago. The Eagles lead the league in scoring at 46.3 points per game, while their defense has been nearly as effective, allowing just 24.0 PPG, tied for second-best in the league.
The one team conceding fewer points will be their opponent this week, as North Forsyth enters the matchup with a league-best 20.7 points allowed per game, setting up a compelling clash between the league’s top offense and its strongest defense.
North Forsyth is coming off its bye on Tuesday, making this its first league game since November 19. In that outing, the Wildcats earned their most impressive win of the season to date, knocking off Vickery Creek.
South Forsyth, meanwhile, is coming off a narrow victory over DeSana on Tuesday night. The Dragons have emerged as one of the season’s surprise teams; while their 1–3 record may not reflect it, all three of DeSana’s losses have come by single digits against three of the top four teams in the standings.
With contrasting styles and recent results adding intrigue, this matchup offers a measuring stick for both teams as league play continues. South Forsyth will look to maintain its offensive rhythm, while North Forsyth aims to build on the momentum from its last league outing and test its league-best defense against the top scoring team. With early-season positioning at stake, Thursday’s result could have lasting implications in the standings.
