2025 Forsyth County Middle School Football Opening Day
This evening, August 12, the 2025 Forsyth County Middle School football season kicks off with five non-divisional matchups across the county. Just like last year, Week 1 is headlined by a championship rematch as North Forsyth faces Lakeside at South Forsyth High School. All five games are set for a 6:30 PM kickoff.

A mere three points over two games separated the Lions and the Wildcats last season. Lakeside struck first with a 20–16 win in Week 1, but North Forsyth returned the favor in the championship game, grinding out a 7–6 victory. In a year defined by high-scoring offenses, both meetings bucked the trend with defensive showdowns. Now, as the 2025 season begins, all eyes are on whether these two recent powerhouses can once again set the tone for a championship run.
Other Matchups
This is the only new pairing from last year’s Week 1 slate, and the two teams didn’t face each other at all in 2024. Both missed the playoffs a season ago, adding extra motivation to make an early statement as the 2025 campaign kicks off.
This is a rematch of last year’s opener, when DeSana rolled to a 28–8 win at Denmark HS. This time, the game shifts to Otwell’s backyard at FCHS. Neither team was in the playoff hunt a season ago, adding incentive to start 2025 on the right note.
Hendricks controlled last year’s Week 1 matchup, earning a 26–8 win in the only game played on a middle school’s home field (HMS). This fall, the venue shifts to Lambert HS, where both teams will look to rebound from sub-.500 records in 2024.
South Forsyth and Vickery Creek met twice last season — in Week 1 and Week 7 — with the Eagles convincingly winning both games, 48–15 and 39–14. VCMS missed the playoffs, while SFMS advanced to the postseason before falling in the semifinals.

After a full year without weather disruptions, Tuesday’s forecast is uncertain with a 40% chance of thunderstorms. Cloud cover will keep temperatures in the upper 70s, continuing the season’s unseasonably comfortable conditions into the second week of August. Winds are expected to stay light—below five miles per hour—unless storms arrive.
