2025 Forsyth County Middle School Football Opening Day, Part II

After last week’s washout from persistent thunderstorms, Forsyth County middle school football finally gets underway — jumping straight into divisional play to open the 2025 season. Riverwatch will essentially have a double bye, as their traditional off week lands here, pushing their debut to Week 3. The marquee matchup features last year’s East Division top two, Lakeside and South Forsyth, meeting in a rematch that could carry early playoff implications. Across the county, every team will be eager to shake off the long wait and set the tone for the season. All five games kick off at 6:30 PM.

Few matchups in Forsyth County middle school football carry the weight of Lakeside versus South Forsyth. These two programs have developed one of the county’s most competitive rivalries, with games often deciding the East Division crown. Part of what fuels this matchup is how intertwined the programs are — many of their athletes will eventually suit up for the same high school teams, they play their “home” games in the same stadium, and both squads boast a similar mix of speed on the edges and power in the trenches. Their Week 2 meeting last year was a classic — Lakeside exploded to a big early lead before South Forsyth mounted a furious late rally, ultimately falling just short as the Lions held on for a 36-31 victory. That win all but secured Lakeside the East title, adding another dramatic chapter to their history. Once again, both enter with high expectations, and the winner will gain a valuable edge in the race for the #1 seed.

Other Matchups

These rivals split last season, with Piney Grove winning the early divisional game 20-0 and DeSana taking the Week 7 rematch 24-12. With Lakeside and South Forsyth still ahead, this matchup feels like a must-win for both in the East Division race.

Liberty blanked Hendricks 23-0 in last year’s Week 2 matchup. From the limited Week 1 action before cancellations, the Patriots’ offense appeared to be rolling, while Hendricks was down by just one touchdown when their game was called off.

Little Mill had their bye date last week and will be looking to get off to a hot start like they did a year ago winning their Week 2 game over Vickery Creek, 38-0. In Week 1, the Vipers were in a scoreless tie with South Forsyth before storms rolled in.

North Forsyth got off to an impressive start, building a three-touchdown lead over Lakeside before last week’s cancellation. The Wildcats began their 8-game win streak last year with a 58-6 win over Otwell. The Bulldogs' Week 1 game was called off early.

Weather Forecast

As mentioned previously, last week’s weather was about as bad as it gets for football, with storms wiping out the entire Week 1 schedule. This week’s forecast looks more favorable, though storms remain a concern. Kickoff temperatures should be in the low 80s, but high humidity will make it feel warmer.
