2025 Forsyth County Middle School Football Week 8 Recap

The playoff picture had been mostly settled weeks ago, but there was still plenty of excitement left as the regular season came to a close. In the West Division, Vickery Creek and North Forsyth had already locked up the top two seeds, with the Vipers securing the No. 1 spot behind another strong campaign and the defending champion Wildcats claiming No. 2.

The real drama came in the East Division, where DeSana and South Forsyth — both unbeaten heading into Tuesday night — met in a highly anticipated showdown to determine the division’s top seed. The Dragons, an upstart program that had surged all season long, faced a South Forsyth squad that’s been a perennial power in Forsyth County football.

For the rest of the county, Week 8 marked the end of the road for 2025. With seeding settled and playoff spots secure, several teams closed out their seasons on a high note — wrapping up another exciting regular season of Forsyth County middle school football.

In a battle between the top two teams in the East, South Forsyth came out on top with an emphatic 30-point victory. Both teams entered the night having already locked up playoff spots back in Week 5, capping off strong regular seasons that saw each program establish itself among the county’s elite. The matchup carried added weight, though, with the East’s top seed — and county bragging rights — on the line.

The first half was tense and full of nervous energy — both on the field and in the stands — as fans packed in to watch two undefeated teams square off with the division title up for grabs. At halftime, the Eagles held a narrow 16–8 lead, but after the break, it was all South Forsyth. The Eagles made the right adjustments and dominated the second half to pull away for a convincing 44–14 win.

With the victory, South Forsyth claimed the No. 1 seed in the East and, following a surprise result in the West, finished as the county’s only undefeated team in the regular season. The Eagles will host North Forsyth in the first round of the playoffs next Tuesday, while DeSana will travel to face Vickery Creek in the other semifinal matchup.

Other Matchups

For the second straight year, Little Mill edged out Liberty in a thrilling one-score game, following up last season’s 7–0 win with another tight victory. While this year’s result didn’t earn the Mustangs a playoff berth like last year, it was a strong finish that secured third place in the West.

The game was competitive from the opening whistle. Liberty jumped out to a 14–8 lead at halftime behind a balanced attack that kept Little Mill’s defense on its toes. In the second half, the Mustangs made key adjustments, tightening up their defense and executing on offense to steadily chip away at the deficit. By the end of the game, Little Mill had completed their comeback to claim the season-ending victory.

North Forsyth closed out the regular season with a divisional win over Hendricks. The Wildcats finished strong, going 4-1 in the West and 5-1 overall, securing the #2 seed in the upcoming playoffs. With this victory, North Forsyth will carry momentum into the postseason as they aim to defend their title.

North Forsyth jumped all over Hendricks in the first half, building a commanding 21–0 lead. Coupled with Vickery Creek falling to Otwell, the Wildcats ended up sharing the West Division crown, as both teams finished 4–1 in the division. However, since North Forsyth dropped their head-to-head matchup with Vickery Creek earlier in the season, the Vipers earned the #1 seed in the West.

North Forsyth will face South Forsyth next week in the opening round of the playoffs. The matchup is a rematch of last year’s semifinal game, which the Wildcats won 30–24 thanks to a big second-half comeback.

In what turned out to be the most thrilling game of the week — and perhaps the entire season — Riverwatch captured its first win of the year, outlasting Lakeside in double overtime. After the two teams combined for 90 points, the game fittingly came down to a decisive two-point conversion.

The Panthers and Lions traded momentum throughout a tense, hard-fought contest that had the crowd on edge from start to finish. After four quarters couldn’t settle it, Riverwatch dug deep in the extra frames, coming up with clutch plays on both sides of the ball to finally secure a long-awaited victory.

Both teams endured rough seasons, battling through tough competition in the East. The win moved Riverwatch to 1–3 in the division and 1–5 overall, while Lakeside finished with identical marks. Combined with Piney Grove, the three teams ended the regular season locked in a tie in the final East Division standings.

After starting the season 0–3, Otwell completed an impressive turnaround by evening its record at 3–3 with a signature win over Vickery Creek. However, the Vipers still will be the #1 seed in the West Division based upon their 4-1 record in the division and head-to-head win over North Forsyth.

This was another game that stayed close throughout, as Vickery Creek held a slim 15–14 lead at halftime. However, Otwell struck for one touchdown in the second half and held the division champions scoreless the rest of the way, completing the upset and capping a strong second half of the season.

Vickery Creek will now host DeSana in next Tuesday’s first round of the playoffs at Forsyth Central High School. The matchup adds an extra layer of intrigue, as the two teams have not met over the past two seasons.
